Thamesmead's First Ever Fresh Fruit and Veg Stall

Trust Thamesmead is working in partnership with Greenwich Community Food Co-op in launching Thamesmead's first ever fresh fruit and veg stall, ‘Gimme Five' on Friday 28 September.

The not for profit, community lead stall will be run by volunteers outside Arnott Community Centre, off Bentham Road, Thamesmead, 10:30am-2:30pm every Friday.

“Gimme Five is in reference to the five daily portions of fruit and vegetables the Government are encouraging people to eat,” said Trust Thamesmead's Community Development Officer, Roz Williams, adding, “We hope to encourage people to do just that by making the produce fresh, accessible and available at competitive prices.

“The fresh produce sold will be bought in bulk from Spitalfields market on the morning of set-up and will give community members a wide choice of fresh fruit and vegetables.

“It is also an opportunity for people to volunteer to man the stall and become more involved in their community. They will receive on the job training, which means the volunteers learn new skills in customer service, money handling and retail.”

It is hoped, in time, a second fresh fruit and veg stall will open in Thamesmead East.
