Hawksmoor Primary School won this year's Trust Thamesmead Matthew Clarke Memorial Shield for the second year on the trot on Thursday, 27 September.
The ninth annual tournament which is held in memory of former St John Fisher primary school pupil Matthew Clarke, who died of cancer in 1999, was held at Thamesmead Town Football Club.
Seven Thamesmead primary schools - Bishop John Robinson, Castilion, Heronsgate, Parkway, St John Fisher, Windrush and Hawksmoor were represented and there were many more spectators on the touchline, cheering on their friends, relatives and fellow pupils.
Despite an initial delay in the start time, the tournament felt one of the friendliest, with all eyes set on the shield yet not obscuring the real values of participation.
The semi finals were very tense, resulting in a penalty shoot out that saw the Matthew Clarke winners of 2005 Heronsgate eliminated and Hawksmoor and Bishop John Robinson catapulted into the final, where Hawskmoor took an early lead and despite a valiant effort by Bishop John Robinson, Hawksmoor emerged victorious with a 4-0 win.
Every player left with a goodie bag containing Trust Thamesmead goodies, a £5 gift voucher, a commemorative medal and a Matthew Clarke Memorial Shield programme which was put together by the Trust and printed for free by Richard Edward printers.
