Charlton Athletic Community Trust (CACT), with Gallions Housing Association, has recently launched an exciting new initiative which sees the publishing of a series of healthy recipes aimed at young people in South East London.
Gallions Housing Association, is the Patron of CACT's ‘Kick Start for Life' strand - a healthy schools programme which uses the iconic power of football to deliver important messages regarding health, fitness, nutrition, dental hygiene and mental wellbeing.
Over the next six weeks different CACT and Charlton Athletic Football Club personalities will recommend a healthy and low cost recipe for young people to try. The first of the recipes has been chosen by CACT Trustee and ex-Charlton Athletic and Chelsea defender, Paul Elliott MBE. Speaking at the launch of the healthy recipe initiative Paul Elliott said: “This is a fantastic initiative by CACT and Gallions and I'm delighted to be the first to offer my recipe. Spaghetti Bolognese is one of my personal favourite dishes from when I played football for Pisa in Italy for two years”.
Sean Daly, CACT Head of Football and Sports Development who heads up the ‘Kick Start for Life' programme said: “The need for the promotion of healthy lifestyles is self-evident in today's society to help counter the rise of childhood obesity and combat the long-term effects caused by poor lifestyle management and heart disease. With the support of Gallions Housing Association, Charlton Athletic Community Trust's Healthy Schools programme seeks to develop healthy lifestyles through engaging children in physical activity and increasing their knowledge of health related issues. The programme is delivered to children aged between 5 and 11 in conjunction with the local Primary Care Trust's and National Healthy Schools programme”.
Debbie Viner, Gallions' Director of Corporate Services and Planning said: “We are very proud to be the Patrons of the ‘Kick start for Life' programme and this exciting new healthy recipe initiative is a key part of our role in supporting CACT's work in promoting the importance of healthy lifestyles to local school children”.
