Making a Difference in Thamesmead

Eighteen employees from across the Peabody Group were out in force, volunteering their time and helping to make a real difference in Thamesmead last Friday.

Employees based themselves at Willow Bank Primary School where they built raised beds that will not only enable the school to grow and produce vegetables to use in the school kitchen but encourage pupils to learn about growing too.

They also went on to sand and paint benches at Portmeadow Walk in South Thamesmead, as part of wider improvements to the square. New planting and the instalment of a table tennis table also took place, transforming the square into a place people can come together to meet their family, friends and neighbours, as well as other members of the community.

Peabody’s Chief Executive, Stephen Howlett said: “It is fantastic to see employees from across the Peabody Group coming together for the benefit of the Thamesmead community. We hope this shows residents how committed we are to Thamesmead, not only as Peabody but as individuals.”

Employees volunteered their time as part of the organisation’s Peabody Promise which allows individuals to volunteer two days of their time each year to benefit community groups and projects across London. This amounts to 14,000 hours per year.
