Thamesmead's Got Talent

More 150 residents were entertained at the Thamesmead Talent Show on Saturday, raising more than £300 for Sport Relief.

Twenty two residents performed at Thamesmead Youth Voice's event held at The Link Thamesmead which is managed and operated by Trust Thamesmead, part of the Peabody Group.

Peabody's CEO, Stephen Howlett said: “Saturday night's Thamesmead Talent Show not only showcased the talent of the many residents who performed at The Link but also the talent and dedication of Thamesmead Youth Voice who managed the whole event. It just goes to show what young people are achieving in Thamesmead. We hope residents will participate and enjoy the many projects and events which fall under our Arts and Culture programme.”

Music, singing, rapping, dance, gymnastics and poetry were all performed at the event.

Conor from Crowded Oceans said: “This is the first time we have ever played live. It was a great experience and the fact we were helping to raise money for charity is a bonus. None of us liked the idea of running 27 marathons so we thought we would perform instead.”

Meanwhile solo artist OMO said: “I was attending a music course at The Link Thamesmead when I was told about this event. I wasn't too sure I should actually perform as I wasn't confident in my own ability - it is only my second time singing. Now I have done it I feel totally overwhelmed. I want to go on and perform more as I enjoyed it so much.”

Arts and culture is one of Peabody's main objectives in Thamesmead. This includes bringing the arts to the doorstep of residents so they can appreciate the variety which they may not get the chance to experience elsewhere.
