Demolition of Tavy Bridge

Work on phase two of the multi-million pound Tavy Bridge regeneration project is gathering pace. Gallions Housing Association and Bellway Homes (Thames Gateway Division) have today started demolishing the iconic pyramid club and some of the surrounding buildings, to make way for 94 affordable homes and 35 for outright sale. These are expected to be completed in two years time.

Tavy Bridge, an estate in the heart of Thamesmead, southeast London, built in the 1960's, was renowned for its cutting edge architecture. The regeneration project will revamp the area that has already seen the construction of a new medical centre and refurbishment of two high-rise properties.

Gallions' Director of Development, Ian Beckett, said: “I'm really pleased to get the second phase up and running. When finished, there will be a good mix of properties ranging from single occupancy to larger family-sized accommodation. This is great news for the area and the economy as a whole."
