Peabody is rolling out its successful Net Worx programme, in a bid to help more Thamesmead residents get online.

The programme which launched in 2010 has helped more than 1200 Londoners to search and apply for jobs, connect with family and friends, pay bills, shop and use as an information tool.

Offering free one-to-one help for people who are new to or nervous about using the internet, the weekly sessions which connects volunteer teachers with residents who want to learn about the wonderful world wide web, will be offered from Trust Thamesmead’s Arnott Community Centre from Wednesday 26 November.

Peabody’s Director of Community Programmes, Veronica Kirwan said: “For many people getting online and accessing services is a daunting prospect which is where Net Worx comes in. The team work with learners at their own pace to ensure that they feel safe, supported and confident about accessing the internet. For some it has opened up a whole new world and has changed their lives.”

Net Worx is part of Peabody’s wellbeing project, Activate, which has received £6.4m funding from the Big Lottery Fund since it launched in 2007, offering a programme of activities focusing on improving physical activity levels, healthy eating and  mental wellbeing.

Net Worx will run 10:00am-12:00pm every Wednesday, 26 November -  Wednesday 17 December from Arnott Community Centre, 3 Arnott Close, Thamesmead, SE28 8BG.
